Healthy Food and Lifestyle
Expo
February 10, 2005
Doors Open at 3:00 p.m.
Carolina Coliseum
You’ve been hearing the talk, now is
the time to act. Mark your calendars for Thursday,
Feb 10, 2005 and help Richland One make history.
Again, no other district has taken on such
a challenge- to do a district wide food and
health expo.
School food vendors will be on hand to test
new food items that may be used in school meals.
Expo attendees (students, parents, teachers,
etc) will get to sample these delicious items
and vote on the ones they like best. All votes
will be tallied and considered when making
the new school menus so it is important to
come out and have some input on your school
meals.
There will be a Design a Towel Contest for
individuals, classes, schools, clubs, PTO/
PTA, SIC and all district departments. To participate
in the Design a Towel Contest (see attached
rules and information). All dish towels will
be provided by Student Nutrition Services and
will be on display at the expo. The deadline
for submitting towels to Student Nutrition
Services is February 1, 2005.
Schools, departments, organizations, etc.
are encouraged to participate in the expo by
preparing a booth displaying a topic about
health, nutrition and/or physical activity.
Schools and departments can even display what
their school does to encourage healthy lifestyles
(i.e. some schools have walk to school day,
family exercise night, etc). This is a chance
to show off each school or departments commitment
to health. Tables will be provided. If you
are interested in participating, you must fill
out the enclosed form and return to Student
Nutrition Services no later than February 1,
2005 to ensure that there is adequate space
for your booth.
Door prizes will be awarded every 30 minutes
the night of the expo so be sure to hold on
to your ticket once you sign in. Door prizes
include, a PDA, Blood pressure monitoring system,
Blood glucose testing machine, DVD, various
tickets and gift certificates so encourage
everyone to stay because you must be present
to win.
Finally, a contest everyone can take to the
bank. Schools with the highest participation
and attendance the night of the expo will receive
a monetary donation in the amount of $300.00.
That means that the elementary, middle and
high school with the highest participation/
attendance will each receive a $300.00 grand
prize. At the entrance to the expo, there will
be an opportunity for teachers, students, family,
friends and all who attend to cast a vote to
support their school. So spread the word and
get your communities to come out and support
your school. In addition to the grand prizes,
trophies, plagues and certificates will be
awarded for expo participants.
If there are any questions about the Expo,
need a towel for the design contest, or want

us at SNS@richlandone.org Thank you for your
continued support of Student
Nutrition Services and we look forward to a successful event.
