Dreher
girls capture another state AAA track title
Dreher
high school’s girl’s track team
won its second consecutive AAA state title
and third championship in the past four years.
The 60-member team qualified eight members
for the state meet and repeated as S.C. State
AAA Champions, scoring 80 points to outpace
second-place Daniels with 63.
The
team had outstanding performances by: Ferial
Williams, DeQuenna Niles, Lauren Benjamin,
and Vanessa Green, members of the 4 x 100
meter relay team that finished 4th in the
state.
There
also were record-breaking performances by
the following athletes:
- Courtney
Lemon finished 7th in the 200-meter dash,
ran on the relay team that finished 4th
and won South Carolina State Champion in
the 100-meter dash;
- Liza
Todd, placed first and won South Carolina
State Champion in the pole vault;
- Brittney
James finished 2nd in the triple jump,
2nd in the high jump, and 2nd in the 100-meter
hurdles and won the South Carolina State
Champion in the long jump.
- Sarah
Binkley finished 8th in the 1600- and 3rd
in the 3200-meter run;
- Nakia
Billie finished 3rd in the state in both
the 100-meter hurdles and the 400- meter
hurdles;
Daniel
Brooks and Ollie Wooden coached the team.
