Crayton Middle School Wins
State MATHCOUNTS Title
Crayton Middle School’s MATHCOUNTS
team bested a field of 15 teams and captured
first place in the state competition.
Team members
are Philip Cross, Ian Tayor, Ella Soltz and
Kaileen Yeh. Out of 64 contestants, they
placed fourth, fifth, ninth and eleventh, respectively.
In
the Countdown Round, Cross placed first,
qualifying as a member of the 2005 South Carolina
State MATHCOUNTS Team that will compete at
the MATHCOUNTS Nationals in Detroit in May.
John Rushman, Crayton’s MATHCOUNTS
coach, will be the state coach for the national
competition.
Earlier, Crayton won the Midlands
MATHCOUNTS title.
