Crayton Middle Scores Impressive
Results on AMC8
Crayton Middle School students earned perfect
scores, along with impressive state, national
and international rankings on the American
Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8).
Crayton placed
first out of 32 participating schools in
South Carolina.
At the national level, more
than 2600 schools, with 154,000 students,
participated in the competition. Crayton tied
for 12th place in the nation.
Crayton tied for
19th place at the international level, competing
against teams from Canada, China, Ireland,
Japan, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Taiwan,
Philippines and Turkey.
There were 50 perfect
scores in the United States, and 13 perfect
scores from international students. Philip
Cross and Ian Taylor, both Crayton students,
were the only students in South Carolina
to earn a perfect score.
Seven Crayton students
made the USA Distinguished Honor Roll, based
upon the top one percent of student scores.
They are Philip Cross, Ian Taylor, Ella Soltz,
Andrew Fritze, Jane Hearn, Kallen Yeh and
Sean Soni.
Additionally, seven students were
named to the USA Honor Roll, based upon the
top two through five percent of student scores.
They include Amelia Baxley, Allison Ayers,
Conor Hozey, Zack McFadden, Lee Blackmon,
Nick Bozard and Will Kennedy.
Sarah Arndt earned
USA Student Merit Roll honors based upon
the top 15 percent of student scores in grades
6 and below.
Rankings for the American Mathematics
Competition 8 (AMC 8) are determined by the
sum of the top three student scores from
each school.

AMC8 coordinator.
