Crayton Middle Scores Impressive Results on AMC8

Crayton Middle School students earned perfect scores, along with impressive state, national and international rankings on the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8).

Crayton placed first out of 32 participating schools in South Carolina.

At the national level, more than 2600 schools, with 154,000 students, participated in the competition. Crayton tied for 12th place in the nation.

Crayton tied for 19th place at the international level, competing against teams from Canada, China, Ireland, Japan, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines and Turkey.

There were 50 perfect scores in the United States, and 13 perfect scores from international students. Philip Cross and Ian Taylor, both Crayton students, were the only students in South Carolina to earn a perfect score.

Seven Crayton students made the USA Distinguished Honor Roll, based upon the top one percent of student scores. They are Philip Cross, Ian Taylor, Ella Soltz, Andrew Fritze, Jane Hearn, Kallen Yeh and Sean Soni.

Additionally, seven students were named to the USA Honor Roll, based upon the top two through five percent of student scores. They include Amelia Baxley, Allison Ayers, Conor Hozey, Zack McFadden, Lee Blackmon, Nick Bozard and Will Kennedy.

Sarah Arndt earned USA Student Merit Roll honors based upon the top 15 percent of student scores in grades 6 and below.

Rankings for the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8) are determined by the sum of the top three student scores from each school.
