Career Quest 2005
The
Future Focus Career Quest is an activity
designed to provide all Richland District
One eighth graders preparing for transition
to high school important information
regarding academic and career opportunities.
Career Quest student preparation sessions and faculty orientations are a prelude
to the culminating experience at the Fort Jackson Community Activity Center on
February 15, 2005.
On this date participating eighth graders will have the opportunity to engage
approximately 180 business partners representing all 16 career clusters in an
inviting, high-energy environment. Additionally, invitations have been extended
to local government, military and community officials to observe the Career Quest. Students
will ask a minimum of three questions regarding the business representatives’ careers
and will be awarded varying levels of incentives based on the number of successful
interviews they complete.
The Future Focus Career Quest Team members, Career and Technology Education staff,
and Fort Jackson military personnel will provide the required staffing needs
for this event.
Post-event activities will include business representative and student surveys,
distribution of career cluster information, and a critique of each phase of the
Career Quest. Arrangements have been made to install SCOIS.Net, a complete
Internet career guidance system, in each middle school to allow students to further
explore careers.
In addition to academic and career planning, a major goal of the Career Quest
is to increase parental participation in the registration process for rising
ninth graders. Schools with 85% or higher parental attendance at school
meetings will be recognized at a school board meeting.
