Brennen Named Flagship School
Of Promise
Richland One’s Brennen Elementary School
has been named a 2006 Flagship School of Promise
by the S.C. Association of School Administrators.
Brennen is one of only seven
South Carolina schools selected for the award
this year. Brennen’s
recognition brings to 13 the total number of
Richland One schools that have earned Flagship
status.
The goal of the Flagship Schools
of Promise initiative is to ensure that students
have access to the five fundamental resources
defined by the program: an ongoing relationship
with an adult; a safe place to learn and
grow; a healthy start; a marketable skill;
and an opportunity to give back to society
through service.
An educational site is designated
as a School of Promise when it commits to
providing the Five Promises to young people
through school/community-based programs. A
school reaches Flagship level after it has
proven to be fulfilling at least three of the
Five Promises for youth and has developed plans
to provide the unmet resources.
Each school has made a promise to mentor,
protect, nurture, prepare and serve their students
and communities in order to reach higher expectations
for academic success and community involvement.
