Richland One School to Receive
National Automotive Certification
Take your car to any
mechanic these days and before the technician
pulls out a wrench, he or she reaches for the
computer. That’s because repairing today’s
cars requires more than mechanical skill; technicians
must have a thorough knowledge of automotive
systems and good computer skills. The top-of-the-line
training certification for any auto mechanic
comes from the National Automotive Technician
Education Foundation (NATEF). Richland One
just jumped to the front of the line in automotive
service training for its students.
On Tuesday, April 18, Richland One’s
Heyward Career and Technology Center will receive
national certification from the NATEF, making
it the only high school program in the Midlands
with that distinction. NATEF representatives
will present a certification plaque at 8:00
a.m. at Heyward, which is located at 3560 Lynnhaven
Drive.
"NATEF certification means that Richland
One students trained in the program will graduate
with national credentials that qualify them
for jobs in any mechanic’s shop or dealership
in the country," said David Prigge, Heyward’s
program consultant for the Automotive Technology
Program. "National credentials can lead
to higher pay, better benefits and other advantages
for our students. NATEF certification requires
that our training programs meet or exceed industry
standards of excellence. This is an outstanding
honor for Heyward and Richland One."
After the plaque presentation, officials will
tour Heyward’s top-of-the-line automotive
shop.
