Education Program Receives Three Awards
Richland One’s adult and community education
program received three awards from the S.C.
Office of Adult and Community Education.
The program received the Palmetto Performers
award, which is given to the top 12 school
districts in South Carolina with the highest
number of high school credentials awarded during
the 2003-04 school year, based on the 2000
Census count for their county and the number
of people lacking a credential.
The second award received, the Palmetto Achievers,
was presented to 18 programs that met or exceeded
state performance in all 12 categories during
the 2003-04 school year.
The third award, Palmetto Go-Getters, was
presented to counties with the highest number
of high school credentials awarded during the
2003-04 school year. Richland One and Two generated
437 graduates, the highest in the state.
The district’s adult and community education
program offers day and evening programs/classes
including literacy, English as a Second Language
(ESL), parenting/family literacy, GED preparation,
high school diploma completion, basic skills
for the workplace, medical classes and computer
