Program Sweeps Awards
Richland One’s
Adult and Community Education Program recently
captured five top awards from the South Carolina
Association of School Administrators (SCASA).
The awards, which recognize outstanding community
education programs, were presented at the association’s
winter conference on January 20th. The district
congratulates Faye Houston, director of adult
and community education, and her staff for
providing exceptional services to our citizens.
Awards presented to Richland One by the SC
Association of School Administrators:
1. Palmetto Go-Getters: This award is presented
to the adult education program with the highest
number of high school diplomas and GED’s
awarded during 2004-2005. Richland One was
number one in the state with 300 diplomas
and GED’s.
2. Palmetto Performers: The eight counties
with the highest number of high school diplomas
and GED’s awarded during the 2004-2005
school year received the Palmetto Performers
award. Richland County was number one with
371.
3. Palmetto Trend-Setters: Counties that exceeded
the GED state passage rate of 62% during the
2004-2005 school year received this award.
Richland One’s GED passage rate was 78%.
4. Palmetto Pioneers: This award recognizes
program directors who went the “extra
mile” in pursuit of additional funding
dollars to enhance the operation of their local
adult education program. Richland One’s
adult education program applied for and received
an additional $74,100 dollars from grants.
5. Correctional Education-GED Initiative:
Programs that served incarcerated individuals
in a state prison were eligible for this honor.
Richland One’s adult education program
was again number one with 63 GED’s awarded
at the Goodman Correctional Institution.
