Richland
One will hold community interest meeting on
proposed charter school
Richland School District One will conduct
a community interest meeting on Thursday, Dec.
12, at 7p.m. in the media center at Bradley
Elementary, 3032 Pine Belt Rd. The purpose
of the meeting is to present information and
answer questions regarding a proposed Richland
One Public Charter School at Bradley Elementary.
The purpose of the meeting is to obtain feedback
on a proposal to be submitted to the SC
Department of Education for a Public Charter
School. Charter schools are designed to
bring creative programs and new ideas
to the education of our children by giving
them freedom from many of the state requirements
and regulations that govern traditional public
schools.
The proposed Richland One charter school would
be located within the existing Bradley Elementary
School. The innovative program for the charter
school, Core Knowledge, was selected because
of its sound research base, strong support
system, and proven success in obtaining high
levels of student achievement.
The Core
Knowledge curriculum is based on a careful
study of the world's most effective school
systems. Although the Core Knowledge
curriculum generally is considered to
be advanced, the program has proved to be successful
with students of varying backgrounds and economic
levels. Further information on Core Knowledge
schools can be obtained from their Internet
website www.CoreKnowledge.org All interested
members of the Richland One community are invited
to attend.
