Richland One named recipient of E2T2 technology grant

Richland One is one of 18 South Carolina school districts that will receive more than $4 million in education technology grants as part of the No Child Left Behind Act. Recipients of the competitive E2T2 grants are required to effectively integrate technology with teacher training and curriculum development programs.

Four for Four will be implemented in five Richland County School District One elementary schools, where teacher technology specialists will work closely with classroom teachers and students in integrating technology into the existing standards-based curriculum frameworks. Technology specialists will model technology resource-infused lessons and will provide support to teachers as they make the transition to hands-on student-centered learning projects.

The Enhancing Education Through Technology (E2T2) portion of the NCLB law encourages school districts to develop technology programs that address accountability, community involvement, web-based distance learning and equity of access. Eligibility for the grants was determined by each school district's poverty level, need for technology and amount of additional E2T2 funding through the formula grants.

Thirty-seven grant proposals were submitted to the State Department of Education and judged by experienced grant evaluators from several states. Ten grants were awarded.
