Richland School District
One held its second annual faith-based convocation with
the theme, “Standing On Common Ground.” More than 250
persons were in attendance.
Dr. Vivia Fowler, the R. Wright Spears Professor of
Religion and Director of General Education at Columbia
College was the keynote speaker for the general session.
The luncheon speaker was Ako Kambon, president of
Visionary Leaders Institute, who is a nationally
recognized leader in the field of educational consulting.
Participants had the opportunity to attend two of
seven small-group sessions on topics including forming
partnerships, youth mentoring and writing grants, as well
as a panel discussion on “Gangs and Violence
Awareness.”
“By forming partnerships with religious
institutions in ways that are permissible, the faith
community can have a positive impact in supporting
schools and enhancing learning,” said Area 2
Superintendent Helen Jones, who leads Richland One’s
Faith-Based Partnerships Initiative.
The following faith-based partnerships were
recognized at the convocation: Adams Northeast AME and
