Former Lower Richland student accepted at Juilliard
Teyonah Parris, formerly of Lower Richland High School and now a senior drama student at the S.C. Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH), is one of two SCGSAH students among an elite group of 18 students nationally accepted into The Juilliard School Drama Division’s Actor Training Program for Fall 2005.
"We are extremely proud that two of our students have been chosen to join a community of accomplished performing artists in such an exciting and challenging program," said President Dr. Donald Beckie.
"To have one student accepted is a tremendous compliment to our program," added Daniel Murray, drama department chairman, "but two out of 18, or more than 10% nationwide, is incredible."
Parris was a student of Rachel Cooper at Lower Richland High School.
The SCGSAH provides high caliber pre-professional training and arts education through an intensive curriculum in the literary, visual and performing arts combined with a rigorous academic curriculum and humanities studies. In addition to the residential high school, the School offers the two-week Discovery Program for rising ninth-graders, the two-week Academy for high-school sophomores; the five-week Summer Dance Institute for students entering grads 7-11 and professional development opportunities for arts educators.
