RICHLAND ONE ACCEPTING HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

Richland School District One is accepting nominations for the 2005 Hall of Fame. The Richland One Hall of Fame was created to pay tribute to distinguished alumni and other persons who have made significant contributions to the district, their communities, their professions and society as a whole.

Eligibility criteria and nomination forms may be downloaded from the district’s Web site at www.richlandone.org; click on “Hall of Fame” under Quick Links. Nominations must be submitted to the Richland One Office of Communications by 6 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005.

The first eight members of the Richland One Hall of Fame were inducted in November 2004:

  • Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Charles F. Bolden Jr., former astronaut and a 1964 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School.
  • Henry Jennings Cauthen, former president and general manager of the South Carolina Educational Television Network (SCETV), a 1949 graduate of Dreher High School.
  • Kimberly Aiken Cockerham, Miss America 1994 and a 1992 graduate of Columbia High School.
  • The Rev. Joseph A. Darby, pastor of Morris Brown AME Church in Charleston and a 1969 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
  • Harris E. DeLoach Jr., president and CEO of Hartsville-based Sonoco, a 1962 graduate of Eau Claire High School.
  • The late Cornell Alvin Johnson, former principal and supervisor of schools, a graduate of the old Howard School.
  • Dr. Kary B. Mullis, a Nobel Prize-winning chemist and a 1962 graduate of Dreher High School.
  • Dr. John R. Stevenson, former Richland One superintendent
