EAU
CLAIRE HIGH STUDENT WINS 2004 STEVENSON MUSIC
SCHOLARSHIP
Edna Marie Saunders, a senior at Eau Claire
High School in Richland District One, is the
recipient of the 2004 Dr. John R. Stevenson
Music Scholarship. The district’s Partners
In Education Foundation annually awards the
$1,000 scholarship to a Richland One high-school
senior who plans to pursue post-secondary study
in music. The scholarship is named in honor
of former Richland One superintendent and Superintendent
Emeritus Dr. John R. Stevenson. The recipient
is selected through an application process.
Miss Saunders, the daughter of Thelma Saunders,
is an accomplished vocalist who also plays
the clarinet, violin, cello and piano. She
is the head drum major on the marching band
at Eau Claire, and she is a soloist on the
Concert Choir and The Sounds of Freedom Chorale.
She also holds the title of Miss Senior Class.
In the fall, Miss Saunders plans to attend
South Carolina State University to major in
vocal music education. Her dream is to become
a chorus director. In her Stevenson Scholarship
application, she said "I believe it is
my mission and destiny to make a difference
in the world by sharing the gift that God has
blessed me to deliver to all people. Anytime
I sing, I can feel a higher presence and calling
to do great things in the pursuit of world
peace."
