Dreher
is one of the eight high schools that will participate in
the 2003 SAT competition state finals March 12 as
upper/lower state champions.
The
reigning Class AAA State champion, Dreher won this
year’s Class AAA regional title and advanced to the
Class AAA Lower State championship, finishing first. This
is the fifth year of the competition, and Dreher is one of
only two schools to advance to the finals every year.
"These
students are participating in one of the most difficult
scholastic competitions in our state," state
Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum said.
"Their preparation for this contest not only benefits
their performance on the actual SAT but also helps raise
their academic achievement across the board."
Dreher will face
Riverside High School for the State Class AAA
championship.
David
Wang of Dreher is one of eight high-scoring individuals in
the SAT competition and will compete at the state finals
as well.
Over
500 students from 44 high schools participated in
upper/lower state competition Feb. 26. Students took
a specially designed two-hour, 118-question exam that was
divided into two sections of math and two sections of
verbal questions.
The contest is open to all schools that are members of the
South Carolina High School League, and participation is
voluntary. State winners will receive trophies and
medallions provided by the League.
The final round of competition will be held at the
University of South Carolina on March 12. State
champions in each conference, both teams and individuals,
will be named at a luncheon that day.
