Crayton
Middle School placed first in the state in the 18th
Annual Mathematical Association of America’s American
Mathematics Competition 8.
Crayton placed 50th in the nation,
ranking in the top two percent of schools in a three-year,
cumulative top-ranking placement.
Forty-three
South Carolina schools participated in the competition in
which students took a 40-minute, 25-question test.
Nationally, more than 160,000 students participated in the
competition.
Two
hundred students from Crayton participated, and Crayton
led the state with the most Honor Roll students. The
following students received Honor Roll recognition: Josie
Bailey, Jim Manning, James Bristow, Corban Doran, Shannon
Durham, Anna Hegquist, Lucia McWilliams, Konrad
Mugglestone, Scott Schult, Theo DuBose, Sydney Kornegay,
Leslie Williams, Rachel Bass, Amy Betenbaugh, Rachael
Cannady, Austin Coleman, Krystle Miner, Chapman Fairey,
Laura McFadden andElla Soltz.
Josie
Bailey received a plaque for her first-place performance
in the state, answering 24 out of 25 problems correctly.
Jim Manning placed second with a score of 23
correct answers.
Sixth-grade
students were recognized as USA Merit Roll students. Of the 11 South Carolina students receiving this recognition,
seven were Crayton students.
They are Ella Soltz, David Hicks, Ian Taylor, Sarah
Hamblin, Frank Rodgers, Kaileen Yeh and
Andrew Fritze.
