Caughman Road literary magazine wins national award

The Caughman Road Literary Magazine has been awarded first place by the American Scholastic Press Association in the 2003 competition for scholastic yearbooks, magazines and other publications.

Caughman Road won in the elementary category for schools with a student population of 500-1000. More than 2,000 schools were in the competition. Caughman Road is the only elementary winner from South Carolina and one of only three nationally.

The publication showcased student and staff work including poems, photographs, illustrations, short stories and artwork by students and teachers. The American Scholastic Press Association stated, ”the magazine showed a tremendous amount of time, energy and talent that was reflected in the work.”

Bonnie Lutz, kindergarten teacher, and Denise Duke, child development teacher, served as editors. Scott Gandy and his fifth-grade class, Citi Class, were responsible for the layout and graphic design.
