Caughman
Road literary magazine wins national award
The Caughman Road Literary Magazine has been
awarded first place by the American Scholastic
Press Association in the 2003 competition for
scholastic yearbooks, magazines and other publications.
Caughman Road won in the elementary category
for schools with a student population of 500-1000.
More than 2,000 schools were in the competition.
Caughman Road is the only elementary winner
from South Carolina and one of only three nationally.
The publication showcased student and staff
work including poems, photographs, illustrations,
short stories and artwork by students and teachers.
The American Scholastic Press Association stated, ”the
magazine showed a tremendous amount of time,
energy and talent that was reflected in the
work.”
Bonnie Lutz, kindergarten teacher, and Denise
Duke, child development teacher, served as
editors. Scott Gandy and his fifth-grade class,
Citi Class, were responsible for the layout
and graphic design.
