22 Richland One seniors named as National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists

Twenty-two Richland One students have been named as semifinalists in the 2002 National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship competitions and will compete for scholarship awards to be offered in the spring.

They are: Mary Bockman, Merit, Dreher High; Guy Boudreaux, Merit, Dreher High; Quinton Brown, Achievement, A.C. Flora High; Alexandra Creswick, Merit, Dreher High; Brittany DeKnight, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Milena Engh, Merit, Dreher High; Frank Gibson, Achievement, Christopher Jones, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Mary Kathryn Keane, Merit, Dreher High; Clark Lacy, Merit, Dreher; Elizabeth McCoy, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Caitlin Myers, Merit, Dreher High; Sara Osborne, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Rachel Perkins, Merit, Dreher High; Valesha Scott, Columbia High, Achievement; Vaughn Stupart, Columbia, Achievement; Jesse Sky, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Alfonso Smith, Achievement, A.C. Flora High; Laura Studstill, Merit, A.C. Flora High; Matthew Thunell, Merit, Dreher High; Aaron Wallace, Achievement, Dreher High; and Christopher Williams, Achievement, Dreher High.

Semifinalists were named based upon their performance as juniors by taking the 2001 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Less than one percent of the nation's seniors were designated as Semifinalists on a state representational basis.
