Keenan High is 2004 Carolina First Palmetto's
Finest finalist
W.J. Keenan High School in Richland School
District One is one of 16 schools named as
finalists in the 2004 Carolina First Palmetto’s
Finest school competition.
"This is a very competitive
award, and it's an honor to be among the finalists.
Carolina First is delighted to recognize these
high-achieving schools," said Mack Whittle,
CEO of Carolina First Bank.
The S.C. Association of School Administrators
(SCASA) and Carolina First Bank present the
awards each year to two elementary schools,
one middle school and one high school that
offer the best in innovative, effective educational
programs. The Carolina First Palmetto's Finest
Award, now in its 26th year, is one of the
most coveted and respected awards among educators.
"We're very pleased to partner with Carolina
First Bank to offer this recognition for innovative,
effective schools," said Robert Scarborough,
SCASA executive director. "Carolina First's
generous support validates the importance of
good education for South Carolina's young people."
The award selections are based on extensive
evaluations by fellow educators. The application
process includes elements on student achievement,
faculty training, program goals and delivery
systems, office practices and community involvement.
Last fall, more than 40 South Carolina schools
submitted a 17-page application and received
an onsite visit by a review committee. The
16 finalists have now received a second onsite
visit.
The 16 schools will
gather at 6:30 p.m. on March
9 at the Koger Center to learn which have been
named the 2004 Carolina First Palmetto's Finest
Schools. |
