Sixty Richland One seventh-grade students are Duke TIP scholars

Sixty Richland One seventh-grade students have been recognized for outstanding performance on the ACT or SAT in the 2004 Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP). They are among the top scorers in the state and will participate in State Recognition Ceremony June 1 at Furman University in Greenville. Ten of those students are among the top scorers in the 16-state region served by Duke TIP and will participate in the Grand Recognition Ceremony May 17 on the campus of Duke University in Raleigh.

To qualify for State Recognition Ceremony, students had to score 20 or above on the ACT in English and math and 21 or above on the ACT in reading and science or score 510 or above on the verbal or math sections of the SAT or score 500 or above on both the verbal and math sections of the SAT

Grand Recognition Ceremony qualifiers scored 28 or above on the in ACT English and math, 30 or above in ACT reading and 27 or above in ACT science or 650 or above on the verbal or math sections of the SAT or achieved a combined verbal and and math SAT score of 1260

Students qualifying for both State and Grand Recognition are Melissa Gilleland, Ella Soltz, Ian Taylor, and Kaileen Yeh, Crayton Middle; and Nicholas Adkins, Artem Aleshin, Noah Fram, Christopher Garrick, Aaron Markham and Alexander Wilcox, Hand Middle.
