Governor’s School for Science and
Mathematics
George Hearn of A.C. Flora High School and Timothy Hess of Lower Richland High
School have been invited to become part of the Class of 2006 at the S.C. Governor’s
School for Science and Mathematics (SCGSSM).
In addition, Jade Davis Of Columbia High,
Stephanie Jones of C.A. Johnson Preparatory
Academy, Michelle Oden of A.C. Flora High
School and Ellen Widdifield of Dreher High
School have been named as alternates. Alternates
are accepted once a vacancy becomes available.
According to SCGMSS admission officials,
the accomplishments of this year’s
applicants made the selection process extremely
difficult. The number of applicants with
demonstrated academic ability far outnumbered
the spaces available for juniors.
SCGSSM is a public, residential high
school for academically advanced juniors
and seniors located in Hartsville. It offers
a flexible, enriched and balanced curriculum
with a special focus on science and math.
The daily class schedule is more like that
of college than high school.
The school is ranked among the bets academic
secondary schools in the nation. It has
been recognized for its overall excellence,
its strong mix of intellectual challenges
and its dedicated teachers.
