Richland
One students win 78 awards at the USC Region
II Science and Engineering Fair
Forty-four Richland One students won 78 awards, including eight first-place awards
and 37 special awards at the USC Region II Science and Engineering Fair held
at the Koger Center.
Students entered projects in science-,
mathematics-and engineering-related fields.
More than $30,000 was given away in prizes
and awards.
In Region II Grand Awards: Team Division,
junior division, Davis Powell and Preston
Mousseau of Crayton Middle won first place.
They received the Grand Awards team plaque,
Gold Medallion, Honors Certificate and
membership in the S.C. Junior Academy of
Science. The team of Kino Veal, Brandon
McGrady, Donnell Simmons and Antwan Jackson
from Webber Elementary received honorable
mention
In Region II Grand Awards: Team Division,
senior division, Dreher High students swept
all awards. Abigail McClam and Rachel Morales
won first place and received the Grand
Awards team plaque, Gold Medallion, Honors
Certificate, membership in the S.C. Academy
of Science and partial funding to compete
in the 55th Annual International Science
and Engineering Fair in Portland, Oregon,
May 9-15. Greg Marcil and Richard Hahn
placed second, and Lucia Derks and Katie
Elliott, Dreher High, third place.
