Richland
One to offer Montessori classes at two more
schools
In addition to the continuing program at Brockman
Elementary, Richland One will expand its Montessori
education program in August 2004 to include
classes for 3K-5K students at Caughman Road
and Logan elementary schools. There will be
two classes at each site.
All Richland One students are eligible to
enroll, regardless of the attendance zone in
which they reside. Students who live in the
Columbia High, C.A. Johnson, Eau Claire and
Keenan attendance zones will attend the Montessori
program at Logan. Students in the Dreher and
Lower Richland attendance zones, as well as
students zoned for Burnside Elementary, will
attend the Montessori program at Caughman Road.
Brockman serves students in the Brennen, Bradley
and Satchel Ford attendance zones
A half-day program will be offered for children
who are 3 years old by March 1, 2004. Children
applying for the 4K and 5K full-day kindergarten
programs must be the required age by September
1, 2004. Tuition will be charged for students
in 3K and 4K. A sliding scale will be used
to provide tuition assistance to families who
meet the criteria for free/reduced lunch program
Admission is by written application only.
Parents must attend a one-hour parent information
session to receive an application. Information
sessions will be held as follows: January 20
at 6 p.m. and February 3 at 8 a.m., at Caughman
Road; January 22 at 6 p.m. and February 5 at
8 a.m., at Logan. To register for a session,
call Sue O’Cain at 790-6722 between 8:30
a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please register at least
one week before the session
Please note that the application/selection
process is not on a first-come, first-served
basis. All applications, with proper documentation,
are due by February 13. The random selection
procedure will take place in late-February.
