Richland One to offer Montessori classes at two more schools

In addition to the continuing program at Brockman Elementary, Richland One will expand its Montessori education program in August 2004 to include classes for 3K-5K students at Caughman Road and Logan elementary schools. There will be two classes at each site.

All Richland One students are eligible to enroll, regardless of the attendance zone in which they reside. Students who live in the Columbia High, C.A. Johnson, Eau Claire and Keenan attendance zones will attend the Montessori program at Logan. Students in the Dreher and Lower Richland attendance zones, as well as students zoned for Burnside Elementary, will attend the Montessori program at Caughman Road. Brockman serves students in the Brennen, Bradley and Satchel Ford attendance zones

A half-day program will be offered for children who are 3 years old by March 1, 2004. Children applying for the 4K and 5K full-day kindergarten programs must be the required age by September 1, 2004. Tuition will be charged for students in 3K and 4K. A sliding scale will be used to provide tuition assistance to families who meet the criteria for free/reduced lunch program

Admission is by written application only. Parents must attend a one-hour parent information session to receive an application. Information sessions will be held as follows: January 20 at 6 p.m. and February 3 at 8 a.m., at Caughman Road; January 22 at 6 p.m. and February 5 at 8 a.m., at Logan. To register for a session, call Sue O’Cain at 790-6722 between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please register at least one week before the session

Please note that the application/selection process is not on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications, with proper documentation, are due by February 13. The random selection procedure will take place in late-February. Parents will be notified by early March
