Dreher High School to Present The Wizard of Oz

That all-time favorite, The Wizard of Oz, will fly into the auditorium at Dreher High School beginning Thursday, November 20, at 7 p.m. Yes, this production will feature not only the talents of our young actor students and faculty, but also the Las Vegas-based Flying by Foy team of professional special effects artists who will use various mechanical devices to make performers "fly" on stage. Spectators will be enthralled and enchanted as "Dorothy" swirls in the tornado, as "Glinda" appears in her bubble, as the flying "monkeys" leap upon the unsuspecting heroes, and especially when the "Wicked Witch of the West" swoops around on her broom.

The role of "Wizard" will be played by Dreher’s athletics director Michael DuBard, who will take the stage and take flight as he leaves the Emerald City for Kansas. Playing the part of "Dorothy" will be Catherine Davenport (understudy: Abby Claytor), "Glinda" by Chelsie Veal and the "Wicked Witch' by both Garret Fryar and Abby Khushf. Of course the fun and thrills only just begin when the "Scarecrow," played by William Kana, encounters the "Tinman," otherwise known as Zach Hodges. When they team up with the "Cowardly Lion," played by Dreyshon Wilson (understudy: Jerard Goss), the fab four know they must make it to Oz to see that magical "Wizard."

Shows begin at 7 p.m. November 20-22, with a Sunday matinee November 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $8 for adults and $5 for children under 17.

This production is made possible through the efforts of many supporters, including Town Theatre and all the parents of the 70+ thespians.
