C.A. JOHNSON FRESHMEN TO RECEIVE LAPTOP COMPUTERS

Thanks to $424,000 in state grant funding, ninth-graders at C.A. Johnson Preparatory will get their own laptop computers.

C.A. Johnson will use the money to implement its eHornet One-to-One Laptop Program. The Richland One school is one of only six high schools statewide to receive the laptop grant. Schools submitted proposals and were chosen based on their most recent state report card ratings, the percentage of students on free and reduced-price lunch, their technological capacity and their vision for the program.

Every C.A. Johnson freshman will receive a laptop later this fall. They will be able to take the laptops home and keep them for their four years of high school. Goals of the eHornet program include raising the academic achievement of ninth-graders in English language arts and mathematics as measured by district and state standards. The program also will support the school’s efforts to increase parent utilization of programs that monitor student progress.

"Our ultimate goal is to provide seamless integration of technology across the instructional program and curriculum enhancements that will enable students to participate in parallel curricula leading to an earned high school diploma, professional certifications and/or a college associate’s degree or equivalent credit at four-year institutions," said C.A. Johnson Principal Kathie Greer.

"The resources provided through this grant are a timely, invaluable gift to our school community and catalyst in our transformation process," she said.
