SCHOOL BOARD NAMES SUPERINTENDENT FINALISTS

After screening dozens of applications from across the country and conducting initial interviews, the Richland One Board of School Commissioners has narrowed its search for the district’s new superintendent to three finalists.

The finalists for Richland One superintendent are:

Dr. Gerald D. Dawkins, a native of Spartanburg, SC, who has served as superintendent of the Saginaw Public Schools in Saginaw, MI since 2001
Dr. Percy A. Mack, a native of Savannah, GA, who has served as superintendent of the Dayton Public Schools in Dayton, Ohio since 2002
Dr. Craig Witherspoon, a native of eastern North Carolina, who has served as superintendent of the Edgecombe County Public Schools in Tarboro, NC since 2006

"The Board is pleased with this group of finalists. Each has a record of student academic achievement improvement," said Richland One Board Chairwoman Wendy Brawley.

The finalists will be in Columbia on Tuesday, May 6 for interviews with the school board in the morning and visits to district schools in the afternoon. Community members will have an opportunity to meet the finalists during an informal meet-and-greet reception from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Richland One Hall of Fame Room at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
