Your plans for next week must include Dreher High School’s annual Senior Directing One-Act Play Showcase! This year’s production features a closely-knit group of seniors with plays each uniquely but equally connected to the directors behind them.

Begin the evening with The General of Hot Desire, directed by Arielle Moye. This clever and quick-paced one-act begins with two of Shakespeare’s most beloved sonnets and the ensuing development of an existential comedy. Written by John Guare, it is a show with literary merit and hilarious moments.

Following will be Roddey Smith’s comedic production of In the John, a hilarious short play about the bathrooms at a hypothetical high school somewhere equally ambiguous. But the universal humor found evident in the play teaches us all not to be so quick to judge.

DEAD, directed by Dana Witkoski, explores the afterlife and promises
dry wit and biting sarcasm that would leave Dante rolling with laughter. The show guest stars faculty member Amari Paulovic. Of course, there is a surprise ending.

Rounding out the festival is the award winning script S.P.A.R. directed by Kendal Titus. It involves a séance which will change the lives of all the characters – and you in the audience, too. Steve’s Play About Renata will keep you on the edge of your seat, and you won’t be allowed to leave!

These talented seniors will also perform “Senior Moments,” a collection of their noteworthy performances from their four years at Dreher.

Money raised at this year’s festival will be used to cover expenses for the Three-D Players to attend the National Theatre Conference this summer.
