Keenan Singers Seeking Donations for New York Field Trip
The Keenan High School Singers are asking the community to help them fulfill the dream of a lifetime: to perform on NBC’s Today show, at Carnegie Hall, Ground Zero and other New York landmarks during a school field trip to the Big Apple on March 21-26.
This month the Keenan Singers, a student choral group primarily from low-income families, will be hosting the following events to help raise the money they need for the field trip:
* March 8 - The highly acclaimed Gullah Singers will perform with Keenan choral students at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. Donations are $5. The community is invited to attend this spectacular night of music.
* March 15 - A car wash with fish dinners and hot dogs for sale will be held from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Heyward & Sons gas station, 4715 North Main Street (across from Columbia College).
* March 20 - The Performing Arts Choral Team Booster Club and the Keenan Singers will host a school-wide talent and fashion show at 7 p.m. in the Keenan theatre. Admission is $5.
Even with these fundraisers, organizers aren’t sure they’ll have all the money they need for each student, whose expenses will total about $500 each.
Anyone who would like to sponsor a student or make a donation may do so by making their check payable to PACT (Performing Arts Choral Team) and sending it to Keenan High School, 361 Pisgah Church Road, Columbia, SC 29203. Donors who need additional information should contact Carolyn Cleveland, Keenan’s choral director, at 714-2500, extension 4201.
Questions from the media should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7504 or 231-7510.
