HEALTHY CAPITAL 5K RUN/WALK SET FOR APRIL 12
Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in Columbia High School’s first Healthy Capital 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 12.
Organizers say the purpose of the event is to promote health and wellness at Columbia High, build the school’s community relationships and showcase Columbia High and its surrounding area to runners and walkers from around the city and the state.
Participants may start picking up their packets at 7:15 a.m. the day of the race. The run/walk will begin at 8:30. The race begins and ends on Kathleen Drive near the gymnasium parking area. The course is fast and flat through the Pine Valley neighborhood. There will be a water stop and monitors on the course. The event will be held in the gym in the event of rain.
The early entry fee is $20 for adults and $10 for students on or before March 29. After March 29, the entry fee is $25 for adults and $15 for students. The entry fee on the day of the race is $30 for adults and $20 for students. All proceeds will go toward purchasing new equipment for St. Andrews Park, a recreational facility that serves students in the Columbia High community.
The top male and female finishers overall will receive $50 cash prizes. The top three male and female finishers in each age division will receive medals. The awards ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to stay for Columbia High’s Cluster Day celebration immediately after the race.
