Richland One Schools to Host Family, Musical Events
Mark your calendar! Richland One schools have a number of exciting events of interest to parents and the community.
Saturday, March 1
Richland One Title I Family Retreat, 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Families of students attending Richland One’s Title I elementary schools (Burton-Pack, Carver-Lyon, Forest Heights, Gadsden, Hopkins, Hyatt Park, South Kilbourne, E.E. Taylor, J.P. Thomas, Watkins-Nance and Webber) are invited to a morning of workshops and other events designed to help students. Transportation to the retreat site and lunch will be provided. A lucky family will win a flat screen TV, one of the door prizes that will be given away. And you know sometimes, it just pays to be a man. Gas cards ranging from $10 to $50 will be awarded to four males attending the retreat.
Families that need transportation should contact the parent educator at their child’s school for pick-up locations and times. The event will be held at Webber Elementary, 140 Webber School Road in Eastover.
Bell Bottom Bash: Brennen PTO Annual Auction
Get out your bell bottoms and get ready to disco and bid on exciting items at the annual Brennen Elementary PTO Auction, March 1 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at the Clarion Town House, 1615 Gervais Street. The Bell Bottom Bash promises to be a night of great food, fun and fabulous items up for bid. WIS-TV news anchor Dawndy Mercer will emcee the event. Advance reservations are $30 per person. The night of the auction, admission will be $50 at the door. Proceeds from the event will be used to help Brennen students. Parent Information Meeting, Heyward Career and Technology Center
Parents, would you like to have your child graduate from high school with some training and experience in carpentry, auto technology or similar fields? Heyward Career and Technology Center invites you to attend an information meeting on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s technology center, 3560 Lynhaven Drive. You can learn about the great classes Heyward will be offering students this fall including welding, carpentry, plumbing and electrical science. Friday, March 7
Drum line Battle of the Bands
A drum line battle will be brewing at C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. The annual battle of the bands includes drum lines from Columbia High, Lower Richland High, Eau Claire High and schools from Augusta, GA. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
Saturday, March 8
The Gullah Singers in Concert
The Gullah Singers will be performing in concert with the Keenan High School chorus on Saturday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. The community is invited to attend this musical treat. Tickets are $5. The fundraiser will help the Keenan Singers with their expenses for a field trip to New York later this year.
