SCSBA Black Caucus to award scholarship The S.C. School Boards Association's Caucus of Black School Board Members is taking applications for its annual essay scholarship. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to an African-American high-school senior who attends a public school in South Carolina. To apply, students must select one of the following topics and write an essay on why it was important: The Montgomery bus boycott, the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision or The Little Rock Nine. Essays should be no more than three typed, double-spaced pages. Essays will be judged on content, originality, thought-provoking, spelling and grammar, and neatness. Essays should be mailed to: Vince Ford, SCSBA Caucus of Black School Board Members, 1027 Gregg St., Columbia, SC 29201. Essays must be postmarked by April 1, 2009.
