Richland One to Host 2008 Future Focus Career Quest

The Future Focus Career Quest is a district-wide event designed to provide all Richland One sophomores with career and academic information to assist them in selecting a career major.

In compliance with the Education and Economic Development Act, eighth- grade students select a career cluster and 10th-grade students select a career major within their chosen career cluster. The selection of a career cluster/career major aids the student in choosing elective and academic courses during their high school years.

At the Career Quest, participating 10th-grade students will have the opportunity to engage approximately 200 business representatives, representing all 16 career clusters, in an inviting, high-energy environment. Invitations are extended to parents, neighboring school districts, local government officials, military and community officials to observe the Career Quest.

The Future Focus Career Quest will take place on the concourse of the Carolina Coliseum, Tuesday, February 12 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Prior to the Career Quest, the district’s high schools will be given the opportunity to conduct pre-Quest activities with their 10th-graders. On the day of the Career Quest, students will interview business persons concerning the academic preparation needed for their career. Post-Quest activities are planned to further assist students in the selection of a major and choosing high school courses to complete a major.
