Video Conferencing
Richland One is very fortunate to have Video Conference equipment in all of its high schools, eight of its middle schools and two of its elementary schools. Video conferencing equipment can be used in various ways. Teachers are able to speak to teachers at another school, exchanging ideas and information. Students are able to work together on projects and learn about each other. Virtual field trips can take students to places they could never visit.
Some examples of using Video Conferencing are:
- Teachers teaching the same subjects exchanging ideas
- Observing a master teacher
- Students working together on challenging math problems
- Students reading to younger students
- Students sharing their projects with another school
- Students practicing foreign languages together
- Students visiting a Maritime Museum
- Students speaking with an expert in a subject
- Students visiting a Planetarium and Astronomy Museum
South Carolina Virtual School
The South Carolina Virtual School offers courses to high school students using online technology. Students and teachers are separated by time and/or distance. Teachers hold advanced degrees and/or “highly qualified” and have been trained to teach online. Both Initial Credit and Content Recovery Courses are offered. .During a student’s high school years, he/she may take up to 12 courses, three per year. Usually no more than one course is permitted per session. Students must have a teacher proctor their final exam and if necessary, their End of Course exam. All courses are counted on the student’s transcript.
Students register for the South Carolina Virtual School, get their parent’s approval and then get their counselor’s approval to take the course. Students must have a computer with an internet connection available to take a course. The ideal student is one who has knowledge of how to use a computer, is motivated to take the course, and who has the time to devote to the course.
For further information, speak to your counselor or visit the South Carolina Virtual School Website.
Currently, South Carolina Virtual School is accepting applications for Summer School. |
