This past spring Mrs. Smathers and Mrs. Swygert began a garden in the unused courtyard at Gadsden Elementary with donations from the Lowes on Garners Ferry Road. Stop by and tell them you heard about their donation to Gadsden! Everyone who worked in the garden seemed to have a great time! We also grew a lot of yummy vegetables. Students were able to see, eat, and take home tomatoes, squash, zuchinni, and cucmbers. Our watermelon and blueberries did not fare well, but we learned from the experience, and will be better prepared for next year.
This fall, we have passed out garden notebooks to each class from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Mrs. Swygert purchased seeds and plants for fall growing. We are trying to grow cabbage, lettuce, arugula, carrots, beets, radishes, and mustard greens. We are excited to see what will grow this fall!
Our fall garden is still producing in some areas, but we are prepping for spring and have even planted a few veggies to start growing. Go look at our pictures to see what we are up to in the garden.
