Team To Recommend Richland One For National Accreditation

Richland One school board members, district staff and community supporters learned Tuesday that an external review team of educators will recommend the district for national accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission.

"Attaining national accreditation will provide further evidence to our stakeholders that Richland One is a district committed to excellence and continuous improvement that operates with one vision, one mission and one common purpose, which is to ensure that all of our students receive a high quality education," said Superintendent Dr. Percy Mack.

All Richland One schools have been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for many years. Three years ago, SACS merged with two other organizations to form a unified national organization called AdvancED (Advancing Excellence in Education). Instead of evaluating schools individually, the AdvancED district accreditation process looks at how school systems work as a whole to meet students' needs.

Over the past three days, AdvancED Quality Assurance Review Team members visited 18 schools, reviewed numerous documents and interviewed 736 people, including school board members, district administrators, school staff, parents, students and community representatives. The team presented its exit report and announced its intention to recommend the district for national accreditation during a called meeting of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners.
