Activities

Suppose Yingmei’s mother’s piano is an upright piano.  The body would be a tall rectangle.  The keyboard would jut out from the body at about the halfway point. Sketch the front, top, and side views of the piano as if it were built with cubes.

Yingmei learns a valuable lesson about acceptance of self and family.  This lesson will help her to be a responsible friend and family member.  Identify what characteristics a responsible friend and family member exhibits.  Explain how finding a sense of belonging and self-respect will promote Yingmei’s health.  What strategies can she use to develop these feelings?  How do you develop these traits?

Yingmei faces the struggles that many immigrant children faced.  She wants to be an American, yet retains many of the customs of her Chinese heritage.  Write a letter to Yingmei detailing how the Asian immigrants have contributed to the American economy and way of life since the early 1900s.
