Repair Guidelines

All machines sent in for repair will be divided into three categories. Each category will depict the machine's repair cost, compared to its current value. The current replacement value of a machine is not the cost of the machine when it was purchased, but the estimated value the machine has the day it is evaluated.

Category 1 -
The machine's repair cost is less than or equal to 50% of the current replacement value. Category 1 machines will be repaired and supported fully.
Category 2 -
The machine's repair cost is more than 50% but less than 75% of the current replacement value. Category 2 machines will be evaluated for potential repair. If the unit can be repaired at a reasonable cost, the unit will be repaired. Factors governing category 2 include cost of repair, district needs and equipment age.
Category 3 -
The machine's repair cost is more than 75% of the machine's replacement value. Category 3 machines will be evaluated and returned to the school or office. The school or office has the option to discard the machine, or contact a local vendor and have the unit repaired by them.

NOTE: All Category 2 and 3 equipment evaluated for discard will be returned to the user for inventory accommodation and district inventory control. Contact the district Warehouse for proper disposal of nonfunctional and obsolete equipment. An estimate of the repair cost will be included with the machine, along with an estimate of the machine's current value. These are not absolute values. Vendors will all charge a different price to repair the same problem.

All equipment to be transported to the district repair facility must be properly tagged. You may obtain a repair tag from your Instructional Technology Specialist. This is a 3-part tag and must be completed and attached to all equipment before transport. All repair tags are bar coded and assigned to an individual school. Repair tags are NOT transferable between schools. Call 231-6963 if you need repair tags. Equipment pickup and delivery is the responsibility of Warehouse personnel. The number of items picked up or delivered is a function of the space available on the trucks.
