OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Hardware Guidelines

To ensure compatibility with current district information and instructional systems, the following standards shall apply to the configuration of computers and peripheral equipment purchased by the district for classroom network applications, administrative applications in schools and district office facilities. Questions concerning these standards or requests for further recommendations regarding procurement of computers and peripherals should be forwarded to Information Technology.

1.
All computer workstations must be purchased through existing State of South Carolina term contracts. The current contracts for workstations include products from several manufacturers. Information Technology will provide information regarding computers and peripheral devices on term contracts.
2.
To ensure compatibility with the district's standards and installed base, Information Technology must approve all hardware (computers, printers, etc.) purchases. Only approved equipment will be installed, serviced and maintained by Information Technology.
3.
New purchases must include factory installation of additional components such as network cards, CD drives, sound cards, etc.
4.
Donated computer equipment must be approved by Information Technology - according to district standards - in order for Information Technology to support this equipment.
5.
All computer equipment purchases must meet or exceed district standards.
6.
The following are the recommended configurations for workstations. These standards shall apply to all networked and stand-alone workstations for both administrative and instructional use. Workstation prices and quotations will be issued when requested (from either Information Technology or Instructional Technology Services).
