2008 Richland One Substitute of the Year Program
General Information
The Substitute Teacher of the Year Program is a recognition program that enables the district to recognize outstanding achievements by a substitute teacher of the district. The purpose of the nomination process is to provide a systematic method to identifying this individual and ensure that he or she receives appropriate recognition for his or her efforts on behalf of the district's students.
Who Can Be Nominated?
This award is open to all substitute teachers. The only restriction is the person must have served as a substitute teacher with the district for a minimum of 12 months.
Who May Make Nominations?
Any employee, classified or certified, may submit a nomination for this award. The district wants to have the widest possible participation in this program, to ensure that every substitute teacher who performs outstanding service has an opportunity to be nominated.
Qualifications of Nominee
A substitute teacher who is nominated must have been an employee for a cumulative amount of time of at least 12 months. During that time, the employee should have performed his or her duties in such an outstanding manner as to significantly contribute to the operation of the district. This may or may not include functions outside the regular scope of job duties. Also, additional volunteer work in service to the district may be used to support a nomination. However, the basic qualification should involve the work done by the employee during the regular course of his or her employment.
Richland One has many fine substitute teachers. The purpose or this award is to identify those individuals whose service has been truly outstanding in its contribution to the overall purposes of the district.
Nomination and Selection Process
The nomination process begins in March, with the distribution of nomination forms to all work sites.
Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, consisting of the following: a human resources coordinator (chair); one principal from each level; one teacher from each level along with the previous Substitute Teacher of the Year.
The committee will select five finalists to interview. All nominees will be honored at a reception, at which time all Substitute Teacher of the Year nominees and finalists will be recognized.
The 2008 Substitute Teacher of the Year will be announced at our Celebrations 2008, on May 8, 2008. The winner will be awarded $250 and a plaque.
