SUBFINDER

SubFinder is Richland District One's automated substitute finder system. This page is aimed at providing some insight that will help make using the system easier. An upgrade to the system on October 12, 2001 provided some handy new features that we hope will make your SubFinder use more successful.

We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) with answers from our Help Desk expert along with some other SubFinder menu details and explanations.

Question: How may someone request me?

Answer: SubFinder creates a unique number for each substitute called a "Substitute ID". These numbers are to help school principals and their designees in adding you to various lists in SubFinder and allows employees to request you in their absence. The version 4.2 upgrade now allows you to find your "ID" number in the "Personal Information Menu" whenever needed. Remember...your PIN number should never be given out to anyone.

Question: What is this new "Report an Absence Menu"?

Answer: If you have accepted a multiple day mob and later find out that you need to miss a 1/2 day or more of that particular job, you may use this menu to report yourself absent for that time frame. SubFinder will split the job and search for a replacement for you during your absence from the job.

Question: I am now hearing an option called "Same Times Everyday & Per Employee Schedule". What does this mean?

Answer: This is a version 4.2 enhancement. The "Same Times Everyday" function allows employees to report multiple 1/2 days. Prior to this, if the employee was absent from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. for three consecutive days, the job had to be added as three separate jobs. Now, the "Same Times Everyday" option allows the employee to add the dates in one call and notify you that the job is only for half-days. The "Per Employee Schedule" basically follow the employee's full-time or part-time schedule.

Question: How can I change/update the schools in my SubFinder Profile?

Answer: You must do this in writing or by telephone. Feel free to email changes for a quicker response (bweston@richlandone.org). Remember, SubFinder will only call you for jobs for the schools you have selected. You may change these throughout the school year if needed.

Question: What are the procedures to sign up for long-term jobs?

Answer: It is preferred that long-term substitutes have a degree in education. Long-term substitute jobs are obtained through the same process as obtaining daily work. SubFinder handles it all. Occasionally principals or employees ask for referrals from a Human Resources coordinator for long-term positions. If you are interested, please forward a resume outlining your educational credentials and work history to the SubCenter. Be sure to include your major/minor and list any subject and grade areas you feel proficient in teaching.

Calling Periods: SubFinder calls during two scheduled time frames. Those are from 5:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon (Monday through Friday only) and 6:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. (Sunday through Saturday, including holidays)

It is possible that you may receive a late morning call from SubFinder asking that you report within minutes of the start time. Feel free to accept these jobs. Call the school, informing them you have just accepted a late call from SubFinder and provide an anticipated arrival time.

Searching for available work: Be proactive! There is no need to wait on SubFinder to call you. You may call the system at any time to search. Check periodically if there are no jobs available during your current call. Use option two (2) from the SubFinder main menu "Review Available Jobs" and you are well on your way.

Your availability: Possibly you were approved to substitute and now have secured employment elsewhere. If so, please contact our office to have your name removed from the active SubFinder calling database. The SubFinder Personal Information feature (Main menu - option 5) allows you to make yourself unavailable for dates that you are unable to substitute. This helps save the system critical dialing time.
