School Facility Capacities
This procedure will provide the guidelines for the establishing the capacity rates for the various schools throughout the district. In general, the capacity figures are generated by totaling the number specific classroom spaces and identify a generally accepted capacity for each type of educational space. A list of the all of the district's properties and their specific capacities has been included in this procedure.
Background:
The school capacity figures are used for any number of calculations throughout the district. There has always been a need to establish a consistent method of calculating this component.
As noted in the tables below, each educational space has been matched with a specific capacity designation. The attached spreadsheet identifies the count for each of the different spaces. As each type of space is counted a total number of available educational spaces are computed. This total number for the facility is adjusted by a capacity factor based on the use of that facility. A table listing all of the capacity figures is shown below.
Methodology
- Identify and define capacity for each type of educational space in the facility.
- Total the number of different spaces in the facility.
- Obtain space specific capacities by multiplying the number of spaces by the capacity for each of that space.
- Total the capacities of all educational spaces.
- Multiply total capacity by the capacity factor.
