Training
Sessions for Mentors
Training
is provided for mentors
of induction or provisional
contract teachers. Training
is also provided for Lead
Mentors. Persons
who wish to qualify to
be mentors for Induction
and Provisional Contract
personnel must meet the
following requirements:
- Be
a continuing contract
person.
- Have
successfully completed
training as an ADEPT
evaluator.
- Attend
12 hours of Mentor training
beginning in the Spring
of 2003.
- Be
willing to put in the
time and effort to provide
training, support and
guidance for an Induction
or a Provisional Contract
person throughout the
year.
- Be
assigned to function
as a Mentor by the principal
or immediate supervisor
at the school or site.
Induction
Contract Mentors will receive
a $400 stipend per year. Provisional
Contract Mentors will receive
a $200 stipend per year. Lead
mentors (one per school)
will receive and extra
$100 on their yearly stipend.

National
Board Classes
Information
Dissemination Sessions
and Support Class
Dissemination sessions
are for experienced teachers
who are interested in pursuing
National Board Certification.
Information Dissemination Sessions
are held by the South Carolina
Center for Educator Recruitment,
Retention & Advancement by
the South Carolina Education
Association and by the Palmetto
Teachers Association. The purpose
of these sessions is to inform
teachers about the process
and resources available in
South Carolina.
District
sessions are held in May
of each year and persons
who desire to participate
in the District's Program
must attend one of the
District's sessions.
The
National Board Certification
Support Class is held each
summer for one week and
with follow-up sessions
throughout the year. The
purpose of the class is
to guide and support persons
who are pursuing or are
planning to pursue the
certification during the
current or following year.

Orientation
Sessions for New Teachers
Certified
Personnel new to Richland
County School District
One are required to attend
two orientation sessions. One
orientation session, usually held
at the Stevenson Administration
Building, is designed to
assist new employees in
processing their payroll,
insurance and benefits
forms. The second orientation
session, usually held at
Keenan Theatre three days
before all other teachers
report to begin the school
year, is designed to introduce
Certified Personnel to
the District, its goals
and objectives and the
resources available within
the District.
Induction
Contract Personnel are
required to attend the
District Orientation Sessions
plus two days of training
before the other teachers
report to begin the school
year. They also must
attend Induction Meetings
throughout the year as
part of their Induction
Contract Program.

Update
Sessions for Principals,

Support Personnel
These
mandatory Performance Evaluation
Update Sessions are for
Principals, Assistant Principals
and Instructional Support
Personnel at the School
and District levels who
are involved with performance
evaluations.

ADEPT
Evaluator Training
Evaluator
training sessions are for
administrators, instructional
support personnel and teachers,
information technology
specialists, guidance counselors,
and speech therapists who
have been recommended by
their principals to serve
as peer evaluators.

Modified
ADEPT Training for Evaluators
This
training is designed for
teachers who have been
trained in ADEPT as coordinating
teachers at USC or elsewhere
and who are recommended
by their principals to
become peer evaluators
in Richland One

ADEPT/TEAM
Orientation Sessions
These
three-hour sessions are
for annual and continuing
contract personnel who
will be evaluated with
the TEAM component of ADEPT
during the current academic
year.
Certificated
persons being evaluated
with the TEAM component
of ADEPT are teachers,
information technology
specialists, guidance counselors,
and speech therapists.

Instructional
Support Personnel Evaluation
Orientation Sessions
ISPE
orientation sessions are
for district and school
instructional support personnel,
such as deputy superintendent,
area superintendents, assistant
principals, CRTs, directors,
coordinators, consultants,
school psychologists, social
workers, etc., who are
being evaluated with the
District's Instructional
Support Personnel Evaluation
System during the current
year.

GBE
Orientation Session
Goal-Based
Evaluation Orientation
sessions are for continuing
contract teachers who have
successfully completed
the TEAM evaluation of
ADEPT or who have been
recommended and trained
as peer evaluators and
are ready to begin the
Goal-Based Evaluation (GBE).

Training
for Evaluators for ADEPT
Special Areas
Special
areas evaluator training
is for administrators,
instructional support personnel,
speech therapists, guidance
counselors, and instructional
technology specialists
who have been recommended
by their principals to
serve as peer evaluators
in the TEAM evaluation
of guidance counselors,
instructional technology
specialists and speech
therapists..
Persons
who have been trained and
endorsed as ADEPT evaluators
for teachers need attend
only the last day of each
training session in order
to be trained to evaluate
special area persons.
Since
the State Department is
revising the Special Areas
TEAM evaluations and will
not have the revisions
finished until January
of 2003, training sessions
will not be held until
after that.

Classified
Personnel Performance Evaluation
Orientation Sessions
These
orientation sessions are
for classified personnel
on formal evaluation for
the current year and for
persons who are going to
begin their Goal-Based
(GBE) informal evaluation
process for the first time.

Sessions for New Teachers
Certified
personnel who miss the
District Orientation Session
or the Induction Training
held during the three days
before the rest of the
teachers report to work
at the beginning of the
year need to attend these
make-up sessions.
