Goal
Based Evaluation Program *
The
Goal-Based Evaluation (GBE) component of
ADEPT is used for continuing contract certified
personnel who have been successful in their
formal evaluation ( TEAM component of ADEPT)
or who have been chosen by their principal
to serve as peer evaluators for that three-year
cycle. The first goal of the GBE
will be used to address any "needs
improvements" received during the
formal evaluation held the previous year. GBE
puts a teacher on the three-year cycle,
so a teacher who is formally evaluated
with TEAM will begin the GBE the following
year.
If
a person received all "competent" ratings,
then the first goal may be used to provide
service in accomplishing school or district
goals. The second and third goals
must address professional growth in the
content area, instructional delivery (including
the integration of technology into instruction),
and assessment.
A
teacher may develop all three goals at
the beginning of the GBE cycle or may choose
to develop one goal per year. Teachers
must implement one goal per year and the
principal or supervisor is responsible
for approving the GBE Goal Approval Form
at the beginning of the cycle or the year
and assessing the completion of the goals
at the end of each year. A GBE Monitoring
Form must be completed and filed at the
school and in the Performance Evaluations
Office at the end of each year. Teachers
who develop goals for the three year cycle
at the beginning of the cycle may revised
goals when necessary with the approval
of their principal or supervisor.
Once
one three-year cycle of GBE is completed,
a teacher, if continuing to meet school
and District expectations, can begin another
cycle of GBE. Any continuing contract
persons can be placed on a formal evaluation
(TEAM) so long as there is a valid reason
for doing so, such as not meeting school
or District expectations or going to a
new school or getting a new principal,
so long as the teacher is informed by May
15th of the previous year that he or she
will be on formal evaluation.
Continuing
contract personnel who have at least three
years of successful teaching experience
can pursue National Board Certification
as their GBE goals. Once National
Board Certification is achieved, the person
goes back to a GBE cycle.
*Since
during the 2002-2003, Richland One will
be piloting the Student Achievement Component
of ADEPT, any person being evaluated with
TEAM or beginning a GBE cycle should
use the GBE Student Achievement Component
Form to develop their GBE goal for 2002-3.
