Career and technology programs are available for all students in grades 6-12. Programs are offered high-school students in the following career clusters: Business and Marketing, Health and Human Services, Engineering and Industrial Technology, and Fine and Liberal Arts. Middle-school students have offerings in Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Industrial Technology Education.
Career and technology programs are tied directly to the district’s Tech Prep curriculum path. High-school students following the Tech Prep path will complete one to five units in a listed occupational specialty. College Prep students also may enroll in career and technology programs that may be related to planned, post-secondary degrees, such as Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medicine, etc. School-to-careers opportunities, such as youth apprenticeships, cooperative education, career mentoring, traditional mentoring, structured work-based experience, service learning, internships and shadowing, are provided to all students. In addition, job placement services are provided to students completing the final level of an occupational specialty.
The goal of career and technology education programs is to provide students with the technical and academic skills to successfully enter post-secondary technical training or an entry level technical job. For information on these programs, call the director of Career and Technology Education, 735-3325.
