  • "Preparing Tomorrow's Professionals"

    Rivers Heyward Career and Technology Center has provided 40 years of excellent service to the students in Richland County School District One. We are proud to offer three programs that meet the needs of students with a variety of career interests. 

    First, our career and technology programs prepare students for post-secondary education and/or careers in Engineering and Industrial Technology; Health and Human Services; and Media and Information Systems.Second, the Richland One Works (ROW) program which is a school-based enterprise provides knowledge and job skills that prepare students for success in their daily lives. Finally, the Richland One Excel Academy offers a unique curriculum that helps students get on track for on-time graduation.

    Through these offerings, the staff at Heyward provides instruction and activities that assist students with career skills such as teamwork, leadership, professionalism, and communication. Many of the students who complete our programs receive industry certifications and continue their endeavors in college and/or the workplace.

  • Washington Leadership Training Institute

    Third year cosmetology students Koya Hill and Kenya McQueen, accompanied by Assistant Principal Russell Perkins and Cosmetology teacher and SkillsUSA advisor, Renee Bell, represented HCTC at the WLTI in Washington, DC from September 17-21.

  • First Field Trip on New Activity Bus

    Cosmetology students traveled to Fountain Inn, SC to visit the Nirvana Cultural Center on October 21, 2016 marking the inaugural trip for the HCTC activity bus. According to Dr. Rivers, in an interview with student reporters from HCTC-TV, the main goal of the 14 seat passenger bus is to transport students to various locations so that they can have experiences that will help them to see what is available to young people.
